A derby inverts the oxford's lacing. The eyelet tabs sit on top of the vamp as open facings, so loosened laces spread wide and the shoe accepts a range of insteps. That openness is the design point: the derby gives up some of the oxford's pulled-together line and gains real fit accommodation in return.
That trade explains who buys it. Comfort-first dress lines lead with derbies because the open lacing suits wider feet and higher insteps. Uniform and service programs follow the same logic for all-day wear. And in the American market the derby has carried the business-casual shift: a leather derby with chinos or denim is now as standard as an oxford with a suit.
The 26 series covers the positioning range. Top-grain on Blake (YF-DB-2611) is the volume core, indicatively US$18–30 FOB per pair. Full-grain on Goodyear welted (YF-DB-2612) is the premium anchor at US$28–50. Split suede (YF-DB-2613) handles seasonal texture at the Blake price point.
YF-DB-2614 runs the same full-grain upper as 2612 on a wide-fit last. It exists for brands that list width as a sizing option rather than a made-to-order exception — a catalog model, not a special.
